The Country 2 Country music festival was the best surprise of my life.
Country 2 Country. What can I say! What started out as me looking for a concert in the UK to coincide with my trip, turned into the best adventure. I found MANY amazing concerts, but they were just a little too close time wise so I kept looking. I found something that piqued my interest. I had never heard of this before! It’s a country music festival over three nights, and I could see them in Glasgow (where Isma lives), London (where my cousins live), or Dublin (where Meg lives!). Well it wasn’t really Isma’s thing, so I messaged Meg and asked her about it. It was the best surprise convo ever! It went like this:
“I’ve decided to come over when there’s a music festival. So don’t laugh, but there’s a country music festival in March 😂I can either do Dublin or Glasgow.”
Meg sends a VERY excited voice note back: “Jane! I have to give you a voice note because you have to know how excited I am!! I am SO on board with country, please can we go! Country sounds absolutely fantastic! I live 10 minutes walk from that stadium! I am dancing the jig knowing you’re keen. This is why we are friends!!”
So needless to say, it was all systems GO! We had to wait a month for the tickets to go on sale, but we were plotting and planning to keep ourselves going until then! All we knew so far was that the headliners were Faith Hill and Tim McGraw! That was all we needed to know. We kept watching the Facebook page as they announced the other artists every week. Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves, Luke Combs. It just got better and better!
We got our tickets on the day thanks to Meg’s fast fingers! We were literally on edge all morning because we wanted tickets for all 3 nights, because why not, and because not everyone was going to be announced before then so we wanted to cover all bases. We were literally on whatsapp to each other and she was keeping me updated with waiting for the tickets to go on sale, literally to the minute! Our adrenalin was PUMPING! Sweet relief when we got the tickets!!
The final lineup:
Friday – Luke Combs, Kip Moore, Sugarland, Kacey Musgraves
Saturday – Midland, Margo Price, Emmylou Harris, Little Big Town
Sunday – Old Dominion, Kelsea Ballerini, Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
To be honest, I didn’t know who half of them were! I downloaded music from a few of them and followed them on Instagram so I was a bit caught up, and then I had some favourites. I only really knew of Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Sugarland and Little Big Town! But I am a fan of a lot of the others now too!
We had THE best time! It was so fun, so different and because it was in the evenings we had the whole day to explore Dublin. Meg is the best tour guide ever and I honestly had one of the best weekends of my life!
So each act was honestly incredible. It was literally a once in a lifetime experience and I am SO happy I did it and can tick it off my list. If I could go again next year I totally would. It was that good! I’m glad I never went to London for it because there were numerous sound complaints, but the O2 arena is HUGE so I am not surprised. Our seats were so amazing and literally the perfect distance from the stage, so yay Ireland!
We would’ve changed the order a bit, in that Kacey Musgraves, while incredible, is more of a ballads girl, so we felt that she kind of killed the build up that Luke, Kip and especially Sugarland had created. Kip is more of a rock country vibe so his was super energetic and lots of stage presence, and Sugarland is super well known and had taken a break for 5 years but they’re also super vibey. So to be followed by ballads was a bit meh. But besides that, it was amazing!
I’ll probably never get to America for a Country music festival, although I would LOVE to see Carrie Underwood etc in person, so for me this was a big TICK off the old list!
If you ever have the chance to go, go! It’s on every year and it is totally worth it. I wish I could go back and do it again.
*Also, seeing Faith Hill sing “This kiss” and “Breathe” in person was honestly a goosebumps moment!
My favourite act that surprised me and got me to buy their latest album was Old Dominion! These guys are super easy listening, a mix of country and pop, not super country at all. I recommend you check out their album “Happy Endings”, it is so great!
Kelsea Ballerini was another favourite for us! I listen to her album so often. It’s super catchy and light and refreshing. She is also so darn cute! Her Instagram stories are so fun.
Finally, my vote for best act would be Little Big Town. Their whole show was so well rehearsed and polished. It was such a professional set, I was amazed! Their timing with each other was to the T, the song order, the performance energy, the choreography. I was honestly blown away! I can see why they win all the awards! Meg was googling any questions we thought of about each act while we sat there, and this group have been together since college! That is definitely why their chemistry was on fire. Definitely the best act and best headliner show for sure.
If I haven’t convinced you that this is an amazing music festival, check out their Facebook page and see some videos of the weekend yourself!
