Kia: The World’s Longest Test Drive

Ok, so you all know I love Kia and their cars. Yes, yes but this is different! Kia is attempting to break records by doing the World’s longest test drive! That is pretty amazing if you ask me. I’m lucky enough to be one of the people taking part, so I am super excited about it.

The KIA RecordSetter World’s Longest Test Drive kicks off this Friday, 14 October 2016, in Durban (Hi there!) It ends at Cape Point on Thursday, 20 October 2016 – just in time for the official debut of the all-new KIA Sportage on Friday, 21 October 2016. Anyone else excited to see this beauty in person?? I was obviously treated to its beauty in South Korea last year, and it was especially significant because it was at the Kia plant where they make them!

People were signing up in their thousands to get a chance to take part in this momentous adventure, more than 30 000 people to be exact! Who wouldn’t want to be part of a World Record. Who else is joining me?

Kia has announced an exciting new partner for the journey.  Vida e caffè will be fuelling the crew and participants over their 7-day trip across South Africa. They will be using credited gift cards that can be used at all vida and Torrador coffee outlets at Shell service stations along the route. We all know I’ll be pulling over for a quick cappa 😉

“We are delighted to be aligned with KIA’s World’s Longest Test Drive,” notes the team from vida e caffè South Africa. “At vida e caffè, we are driven by one simple belief: ‘No passion. No point’. For us, passion is about energy – it’s more than just enthusiasm or excitement, it’s the essence of putting in as much heart, mind, body and soul into something as possible, and then taking it that little bit further. And that’s why we jumped on board. That quality will most certainly be needed for an endeavour like this. We wish the team the very best and all the paixão [portuguese for “passion”] to take it to the finish line.”

David Sieff, Marketing Director for KIA Motors South Africa, is equally excited. “We all know how exhausting it can be driving for hours at end on the road, and we think it’s important that the team stays awake and energised throughout this exciting journey. We’re thrilled that Vida is happy to be of assistance in helping the team, including the hundreds of participants selected from the public, set the record,” he says.

Coffee and driving go hand in hand. Coffee and Life, basically! So it really is a match made in caffeinated heaven.

The team over at Gateway theatre of shopping put together an awesome day for a few of us to get to know what gateway offers, and how you can pack a full day of action in at the shopping centre. Judging from the AMAZING invite we each got, I knew it was going to be just as awesome with amazing attention to detail. I really wasn’t wrong…

We started off at my favourite coffee shop in Gateway, So Whipped (Obviously I was thrilled with this coffee stop!)

Candice put on a fabulous breakfast high tea and we ate ALL OF THE THINGS! I basically know the menu backwards, so I was all about eating everything!

Yes, you are correct, that is a MINI CRONUT! Her barone cronuts are incredible……

Squad be like……

Bowling, when last? I really can’t remember the last time I actually went bowling. This was SO fun! It’s one of those times when you sit there thinking “Why haven’t I done this in so long?!”

I ended up winning highest score for the girls! Don’t know how I pulled that off but it was so fun.

Mr Andy Carrie in action!

After bowling we went outside to go action karting. The boys within the boys/men really did come out. I had actually totally forgotten that the karting was still at gateway, so this was such a great reminder!

Miss Thando rocking that bull ride!

My prize for being top scoring lady!

Warehouse sessions! It isn’t as easy as it looks, but oh so fun!

We got to make our own phone cases at iKase. It only takes about 15min to make so you can go shopping while its being made. I

Our last stop was the iPlanet golf just outside. It is a virtual golf experience, so you can perfect that swing without breaking any windows or losing any balls 😉

Such a fun day with an awesome bunch of people!

Lunch platters from Mozambik!

Thank you to Gateway for the awesome day and to all of the sponsors for looking after us so well all day!

Their last stop was Beluga for sushi lessons, which I’m really sad I had to miss but I heard everyone had the best time!

It’s been a VERY long 14 months since I injured my foot last year, and I haven’t run on it since. I’ve been very very pissed sad about this fact. So now that I’ve been out of the moon boot for a month I decided to take advantage of the public holiday and hit the beach with my friend and old running buddy, Bhav. Well, it was THE most spectacular morning!! Waking up at 6:30am on a public holiday is probably not your idea of fun, but it was a very exciting hop-out-of-bed morning for me!

We started our maiden voyage at about 7:30 am and it was magical. No pain in sight! I MANAGED 4KM!!!! I mean for not running for 14 months I think I’m a bit of a rockstar….
I’ll try do a 5k by Sunday and then ease into doing an extra 500m a week if I can. Slowly does it… Don’t want another moon boot episode. EVER!
We stopped off for coffee after at our new favourite place, Afro’s chicken. They have such amazing coffee! And chicken burgers, strips, bacon and egg rolls. And they open early morning, bonus!

It was the perfect morning….

Beach bootcamp anyone?
