Monsoon Wellness opens in Westville and the Upper Highway rejoices!
I met Charlize through Secret Sunrise as one of our amazing instructors! She is a ball of energy and I love that she is so real. She is a joy to be around and I couldn’t be happier that she has opened her own studio, Monsoon Wellness, in Westville for the Upper Highway folks!
Tell us a bit about your background in Durban?
I grew up in Durban and left just after school. I lived in a couple of South African cities and spent a few years in Thailand and Singapore before returning to Durban. I have to admit I found the return difficult and took me awhile to get into the culture here, but once I found my groove I remembered all the lovely things Durban has to offer.
When did you start your business?
I started practising yoga in Thailand in 2009 and got my YTT the same year. I added Pilates to the mix in 2011 while living in Jozi. Massage was a natural progression and I completed my Sports Massage training in Durban in 2015.
Tell us about your business
I offer several styles of yoga, Pilates and massage from my bespoke studio Monsoon Wellness in Westville. I have both group and private classes.
I offer the following classes:
Candlelight Yin Yoga
Mom and Baby Yoga
New York Pilates
What is your favourite thing about your business?
My favourite part of Monsoon Wellness has to be the 4 times a year retreats, and monthly workshops. Retreats and workshops are a lovely way to immerse yourself in your practise and really allow one the opportunity to focus. I can really research a particular subject and grow my own knowledge while teaching clients something new too.
What would you like people to know about your business?
I offer personal service. I know every one of my clients names, histories and goals. I can tell when you have had a rough day and try to adjust my classes to suit your individual needs. I take my teaching seriously, I constantly study and attend workshops to ensure that I am at the top of my game.
What do you love about living and working in Durban?
I love how easy life is in Durban. People are very quick to smile and are always looking for happiness in life. The constant sunshine makes outdoor living possible and I try to take my classes outside as much as possible. Fresh air, sunshine and happy faces are my experience of Durban.
