Ashley Knight is a strong-willed, motivated and creative business woman who is all about the girl power! She loves talking to like minded women and helping them to realise their full potential. I’ve recently joined her Facebook group and its so nice chatting to the other ladies as well!
Lets get to know Ashley Knight:
What does healthy mean to you?
Wow…that’s quite a question. One would think it’s easy to answer, but when you start thinking about, like REALLY thinking about it, there’s so much to consider. To me, healthy is about balance. It’s balance with regard to healthy eating (and spoiling yourself every so often), being active (and yet still knowing when you need rest), making sure you have your regular health checks done, and remembering that our health is not just a physical thing. To me its mind, body & soul…so important to nurture all of those. If someone asked me what my health goals are; I would say that my goal is primarily to be strong. Strong mind, strong body & strong belief systems. I have seen family members struggle with chronic health issues late in their lives, and I do believe nurturing our bodies and developng strength in our muscles & bones is so important.
What’s your chosen form of exercise?
My ultimate favourite kind of training is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) – I get bored really quickly, so the variety in this kind of training keeps me interested and motivates me to challenge myself. I LOVE weight training too! So many women are put off by it because they think it will make them look like those big body building guys…not true! Trust me girls, unless you’re really loading up on the carbs, you’re not going to look like the incredible hulk. Promise! Weight training is actually good for sooo many reasons other just increasing strength; it’s quite a good cardio workout too!
What does your way of healthy eating look like?
There are certain foods that I have learned over time that do not agree with me (I struggle with IBS, PCOS & a hiatus hernia), so I do avoid those completely (except coffee…I know it’s not good for my body because of it’s acidity factor, but I also know that I am ok for at least 2 cups everyday and I try not go over that. I love my coffee too much to give it up!). Aside from that, I enjoy high protein meals with loads of veg (I’m not a salad fan…unless they are packed with all sorts of ingredients…I find lettuce so boring!), and then I avoid carbs (except for Quinoa, Sweet Potato & butternut…these are “good carbs” – well that’s my view on it anyway). I also drink a minimum of 3 litres of water a day – this to me is a non negotiable!
What is your passion project?
At the moment I run a Business Mastermind Group on Facebook for Solopreneurs & Business Start-ups (it’s free to join) called Being Boss 101 (http://bit.ly/BB101Community). This is my passion project at the moment because I just friggin LOVE helping/coaching business owners on how to grow their businesses online, and seeing them find greater success. I have also just recently launched a FREE online course teaching biz owners “How To Get More Dream Clients Using Facebook” and am planning a few more trainings in the future as well – it’s truly a labour of love for me! My tummy get all squirly, and I hold my breath in excitement when I think about it…
What does a typical day look like for you?
I work from a home office, so it’s normally me behind my Mac in a pair of sweatpants & slippers hugging a mug of coffee and developing my training content. When I’m not doing that, I am in the Being Boss 101 group answering biz questions and sharing resources with all the amazing bizz bosses in there; or I am doing one on one business/career/life coaching sessions with clients in person or via Skype (if they are not local or overseas). Teaching is my life purpose and a true calling for me, so I also sometimes am involved in speaking at events/workshops about anything from career & life coaching to business, social media, branding & online marketing. I am currently planning some awesome local & online mastermind workshops (but that’s still a secret, so shhhhh!). Following my love for coffee I am know to haunt the local coffee shops (Mac in hand) for a litle change of scenery; and then of course I am either squeezing in a good gym session or a run on the beachfront.
What would you like people to know about you?
Well, with regard to the health aspect of my life; I lost 20 kilos in 2014 and have kept it off after a doctor told me the only way I’d ever lose weight was to have corrective surgery! I was by no means overly obese, and was determined to prove to him and myself that surgery was not the “fix” – being healthy required a lifestyle change and I made sure that in making those changes I was always listening to my body and creating an active lifestyle that I loved and that never felt like ‘hard work’.
I’m pretty much addicted to sushi, love anything related to the “creative”, can’t get enough Jane Austen & pretty much distracted by anything glittery.
What would you like people to know about your work/business?
I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur and after having owned and managed a successful recruitment business (Talent Desk) for just over 5 years, I have moved on to an exciting new business venture, which is more aligned with my passion of teaching others.
