New Year New Studio

New Year is all about new beginnings and a fresh start. Everyone is so worried about new year, new me and I’m over here having a new studio rather!

I knew last year I wanted a change to the white wall on the one side of my studio, but I didn’t know what. I was following Shaun Oakley on instagram, aka Damn Vandal, and always loved his work! After seeing some of his latest projects I decided to email him and get a quote! I knew I wanted a floral design and set off finding the perfect one.

The rest is history! I am so so so happy with how it came out and it just makes the space so much happier. Even my clients now train facing the wall! They all love it 🙂

Check out the before and after below!

Plain white and boring!

Definitely needed a boost!

The Entertainer

Those that have followed me for a year will have noticed when I go for a facial or massage I usually mention The Entertainer app followed by how amazing it is! Well that is because it is. It has saved me so much money on things that we don’t usually treat ourselves with. For me, that is a facial or a massage as well as eating out.

What is The Entertainer

The Entertainer

The Entertainer is an app that you download, and then you create an account and buy the deals for the whole year for a once off fee. It was started in Dubai and it has made its way to our fine shores. There are TONS of deals and they only expire at the end of December 2017. There are so many, that I didn’t even get through a tenth of them in the whole year of 2016! All of the deals are Buy One Get One Free so you are basically getting half price everywhere! Such a win in my book.

The Entertainer

Apart from the beauty and fitness side, there are also plenty of activities to do. Just a few from around SA are the big swing, kite surfing, surf lessons, animal farms, renting bicycles and so many more! The food deals are amazing and there are a stack of drinks deals as well. There are so many incredible restaurants that I only tried last year because of this app, and I am so glad I did.

The Entertainer

For the salon treatments, you can be nice and take a friend with you, OR you can be like me and save the second one for yourself 😉 #SorryNotSorry. How that works, is you pay for the first one, then the next time you go you redeem your free one on the app! It makes beauty care so much more affordable, especially when it’s a Dermalogica facial. Am I right ladies? When I bought it and used it for my first facial, I made back the money I paid for it in THE FIRST DEAL! I still had hundreds of deals to use after that.

The Entertainer

If you want to buy it but save 10% then use GIJane at checkout for a discount!
Durban is R395 for the whole year
Joburg and Cape Town is R495 for the whole year

If you have any questions pop me a comment below or email and I’ll happily share any info you might need! They’re also super helpful on their Facebook page as well.

Have you got your app and getting your saving on?

Kia sets a World Record!

Kia is in the middle of setting a World Record, with the World’s Longest Test Drive! Right now as you’re reading this, they are driving through some amazing parts of South Africa.

The #KIAWorldRecord started off in Durban, and I was one of the lucky test driver’s! All I can say is that the new Sportage is INCREDIBLE! I have been obsessed with it since I sat in it in Korea last year, and since I need to upgrade to an SUV for the next stage in my life and for Secret Sunrise (so much stuff to pack), I naturally wanted this one. So I’ll be selling a kidney or something to get this amazing car! It is such a smooth drive with so much power, I just enjoyed it so much! I drove from Durban to Hillcrest, and I usually don’t enjoy Field’s hill, but it was such a dream.

I mean LOOK AT IT!

The interior is so slick

If you want to catch up where they are right now, you can pop over to and there is a live tracker! You’ll also find a ton of pictures and videos from the last few days as well.

How to survive the holidays

I keep getting asked “How do I survive the holidays and not put on tons of weight?”
So I thought I would just give you all some basic guidelines to help you along in this time of need!

People are so used to their daily routine of work and working out, that when the holidays come up they tend to start panicking. Most people know that they won’t put in as much effort, or be able to eat exactly as they would at home, but they also don’t want to undo all the hard work they have done throughout the year.

FYI, your body doesn’t know it’s on holiday. So keep exercising and keep in your movement routine as much as possible. Your body is a machine and responds to demands, so make some demands and it will! A holiday is about relaxing, but its also about staying healthy.

You don’t need to be doing an hour a day, you can do 20-30 minutes and still be active enough to maintain your fitness. That being said, your diet can’t be chocolate and burgers every day or you really will need two hours!

Simple tips and tricks:

  • Get a workout in as soon as you’re up in the morning.
  • Go for a run, walk or swim depending where you are.
  • Do a bodyweight circuit, you really don’t need any equipment.
  • Eat a little lean as much as you can, and use your Christmas meal as your cheat meal that week! You do it weekly anyway, so why should it be any different?
  • If you have a fitbit or alike, then use it daily to get in your 10 000 steps and set a calorie goal
  • You can use a calorie tracker like MyFitness pal or MyFatSecret (Tacky name I know) to track your calories in the day so you’re not going over.

We all love our creature comforts and routine of going to the gym, but how nice is it to just do something different and out of the ordinary? Holidays are about being adventurous, so why not be adventurous with your training?

Most people are rounding off work today and that means they’re heading out for some cocktails to put them in the holiday mood! You need to set some limits and know your goals. Obviously if you want to be chugging 4 cocktails a day you really aren’t going to be happy at the end of it (and neither will your head). So maybe have one cocktail then switch to whiskey for example. Just make small sacrifices for this short period of time. You will still be feeling festive and indulging more than usual, but you’ll be happier knowing you are making healthy-ish changes that won’t ruin all of your hard work.

“Earn it or pay for it” as Andrea Orbeck says. Pick your cheats.
If you want wine and dessert, then your dinner should be light and not include chips but rather a salad.

Get out there in the fresh air and be active. 20-30 minutes is really not a lot of time in a day, and your body will love it. You’ll have energy for the day and sleep better that night. If you’ve put in the effort to get to this point, don’t ruin it over a holiday.

There are plenty of HIIT bodyweight circuits on youtube, we all have no excuse really!

Here are some workouts I love for travelling:

Getting to know Ashley Knight

Ashley Knight is a strong-willed, motivated and creative business woman who is all about the girl power! She loves talking to like minded women and helping them to realise their full potential. I’ve recently joined her Facebook group and its so nice chatting to the other ladies as well!

Lets get to know Ashley Knight:

What does healthy mean to you?
Wow…that’s quite a question. One would think it’s easy to answer, but when you start thinking about, like REALLY thinking about it, there’s so much to consider. To me, healthy is about balance. It’s balance with regard to healthy eating (and spoiling yourself every so often), being active (and yet still knowing when you need rest), making sure you have your regular health checks done, and remembering that our health is not just a physical thing. To me its mind, body & soul…so important to nurture all of those. If someone asked me what my health goals are; I would say that my goal is primarily to be strong. Strong mind, strong body & strong belief systems. I have seen family members struggle with chronic health issues late in their lives, and I do believe nurturing our bodies and developng strength in our muscles & bones is so important.

What’s your chosen form of exercise?
My ultimate favourite kind of training is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) – I get bored really quickly, so the variety in this kind of training keeps me interested and motivates me to challenge myself. I LOVE weight training too! So many women are put off by it because they think it will make them look like those big body building guys…not true! Trust me girls, unless you’re really loading up on the carbs, you’re not going to look like the incredible hulk. Promise! Weight training is actually good for sooo many reasons other just increasing strength; it’s quite a good cardio workout too!

What does your way of healthy eating look like?
There are certain foods that I have learned over time that do not agree with me (I struggle with IBS, PCOS & a hiatus hernia), so I do avoid those completely (except coffee…I know it’s not good for my body because of it’s acidity factor, but I also know that I am ok for at least 2 cups everyday and I try not go over that. I love my coffee too much to give it up!). Aside from that, I enjoy high protein meals with loads of veg (I’m not a salad fan…unless they are packed with all sorts of ingredients…I find lettuce so boring!), and then I avoid carbs (except for Quinoa, Sweet Potato & butternut…these are “good carbs” – well that’s my view on it anyway). I also drink a minimum of 3 litres of water a day – this to me is a non negotiable!

What is your passion project?
At the moment I run a Business Mastermind Group on Facebook for Solopreneurs & Business Start-ups (it’s free to join) called Being Boss 101 ( This is my passion project at the moment because I just friggin LOVE helping/coaching business owners on how to grow their businesses online, and seeing them find greater success. I have also just recently launched a FREE online course teaching biz owners “How To Get More Dream Clients Using Facebook” and am planning a few more trainings in the future as well – it’s truly a labour of love for me! My tummy get all squirly, and I hold my breath in excitement when I think about it…

What does a typical day look like for you?
I work from a home office, so it’s normally me behind my Mac in a pair of sweatpants & slippers hugging a mug of coffee and developing my training content. When I’m not doing that, I am in the Being Boss 101 group answering biz questions and sharing resources with all the amazing bizz bosses in there; or I am doing one on one business/career/life coaching sessions with clients in person or via Skype (if they are not local or overseas). Teaching is my life purpose and a true calling for me, so I also sometimes am involved in speaking at events/workshops about anything from career & life coaching to business, social media, branding & online marketing. I am currently planning some awesome local & online mastermind workshops (but that’s still a secret, so shhhhh!). Following my love for coffee I am know to haunt the local coffee shops (Mac in hand) for a litle change of scenery; and then of course I am either squeezing in a good gym session or a run on the beachfront.

What would you like people to know about you?
Well, with regard to the health aspect of my life; I lost 20 kilos in 2014 and have kept it off after a doctor told me the only way I’d ever lose weight was to have corrective surgery! I was by no means overly obese, and was determined to prove to him and myself that surgery was not the “fix” – being healthy required a lifestyle change and I made sure that in making those changes I was always listening to my body and creating an active lifestyle that I loved and that never felt like ‘hard work’.
I’m pretty much addicted to sushi, love anything related to the “creative”, can’t get enough Jane Austen & pretty much distracted by anything glittery.

What would you like people to know about your work/business?
I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur and after having owned and managed a successful recruitment business (Talent Desk) for just over 5 years, I have moved on to an exciting new business venture, which is more aligned with my passion of teaching others.
The Ashley Knight Company, is about working with people on giving them the skills/tools to be able to live their best life, through coaching, resources and online training in Life, Career & Business. You can find me online by visiting my website or on facebook If you prefer Instagram, I am there too (next to Facebook, Instagram is my fave!) – @ashleyknightco.
I’ve designed a life I LOVE, around a business I LOVE; and I have made it my life’s work to show others how to do that too.

Timmy Trumpet & Savage – Freaks….pumps me up every time!!!

Favourite Exercise & Why?
Squats…because they’re easier than lunges, ha!
