The Entertainer

Those that have followed me for a year will have noticed when I go for a facial or massage I usually mention The Entertainer app followed by how amazing it is! Well that is because it is. It has saved me so much money on things that we don’t usually treat ourselves with. For me, that is a facial or a massage as well as eating out.

What is The Entertainer

The Entertainer

The Entertainer is an app that you download, and then you create an account and buy the deals for the whole year for a once off fee. It was started in Dubai and it has made its way to our fine shores. There are TONS of deals and they only expire at the end of December 2017. There are so many, that I didn’t even get through a tenth of them in the whole year of 2016! All of the deals are Buy One Get One Free so you are basically getting half price everywhere! Such a win in my book.

The Entertainer

Apart from the beauty and fitness side, there are also plenty of activities to do. Just a few from around SA are the big swing, kite surfing, surf lessons, animal farms, renting bicycles and so many more! The food deals are amazing and there are a stack of drinks deals as well. There are so many incredible restaurants that I only tried last year because of this app, and I am so glad I did.

The Entertainer

For the salon treatments, you can be nice and take a friend with you, OR you can be like me and save the second one for yourself ūüėČ #SorryNotSorry. How that works, is you pay for the first one, then the next time you go you redeem your free one on the app! It makes beauty care so much more affordable, especially when it’s a Dermalogica facial. Am I right ladies? When I bought it and used it for my first facial, I made back the money I paid for it in THE FIRST DEAL! I still had hundreds of deals to use after that.

Getting to know Heather Mason

I met Heather on a trip to Cape Town for Gillette Venus Swirl. We met at the airport and straight away you could tell she was so spunky, bright and a pleasure to be around. Heather shares her travels around South Africa, and it’s so refreshing to see it from an American’s view. She makes me want to travel through Joburg and see more of our country!

Lets get to know Heather Mason…

What does healthy mean to you?
To me, healthy means living a life that makes me happy and doing everything in moderation.

What is your chosen form of exercise?
Boxing. I train three mornings a week at the Hillbrow Boxing Club in Johannesburg. I also do an occasional short run.

What does your way of health eating look like?
I used to be a lot more careful about what I eat: making an effort to eat only whole grains; buying local whenever possible; limiting fat, sugar, and¬†processed foods; and eating tons of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. This is still what healthy eating¬†looks like for me, but I must admit I’ve lost some of my discipline since moving from the U.S.¬†to South Africa in 2010. I struggle to find the time to shop for super-healthy food (a time-consuming process in Joburg, because you have to visit so many different shops), and life as a travel blogger exposes me to a lot of naughty (but delicious) food. And to be honest I’ve just decided that life is too short ūüôā

What is your passion project?
My blog, of course! I’ve made a life in South Africa for myself through my blog, and it means the world to me.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I work as a freelance writer and photographer, and no day is ever the same. But here’s one example of a day: I get up at 6:00 a.m. and drive to¬†the Hillbrow Boxing Club for a morning workout. Come home, have coffee and breakfast, check emails and Instagram, catch up on work and write a blog post. In¬†the afternoon, go out an do something in the city — visit a friend’s art gallery, go¬†fabric-shopping at the Oriental Plaza, check out a new coffee shop that I want to blog about. Take pictures. Come home, have dinner, and hang out with my boyfriend and my cat. Go to bed¬†early.

What would you like people to know about you?
Wow, that’s a difficult question to answer. I guess I want people to know that I’m genuine and real, both in my blog and in life.

What would you like people to know about your work/business?
I’m a storyteller. I¬†love telling stories about my¬†life in South¬†Africa, and particularly my life in Johannesburg. I feel very¬†privileged¬†that I’ve been able to make a living out of doing that.

Favourite workout song?
“Mama Said Knock You Out” by LL Cool J.

Favourite exercise and why?
Boxing pad¬†work. I’ve participated in many different sports and exercise programs in my life, but boxing provides the best full-body workout of anything I’ve ever done.

Favourite quote/advice?
I¬†kind of hate quotes. But I guess my most useful piece of advice would be: Accept¬†yourself for who you are and let go of¬†everything that¬†doesn’t matter.

Adidas Run Your Crew

RYC is Run Your Crew. Who is part of your crew? Or do you want to start something new?

Adidas is always at the forefront of what is on trend and cool. With that in mind, they’ve launched a unique running event aimed at bringing running crews and adidas Runners communities together from around the globe, to run, connect and celebrate the spirit of urban running.

We always want to do something different when it comes to fitness and running, so now is your chance! This inner-city crew night run will take place in Johannesburg on Dec. 3, 2016 at 7 p.m. and offers a unique format: Runners must enter a six-person crew to compete, with all crews able to choose the route or distance they’d like to run on the night of the race. The only rule is that all members of a crew must stay within 50 m of each other for the entire run. Not bad right?

The run starts for all crews at the Sci Bono Centre in Newtown. Each crew has the option to run 4, 8 or 12 km, with the routes diverging at multiple points along the course. All routes converge again for the last kilometer, having all crews finish together at a multi-stage block party hosted directly at the finish line.

‚ÄúWhat better way to celebrate the year end in Johannesburg? Created around existing urban running behaviours, we‚Äôre aiming to bring together young, urban runners and welcome everyone to the adidas Runners community. Runners will be able to train for RYC with their crews at our weekly runs hosted at Runbase, the home of adidas Runners,‚ÄĚ said Pieter Warnich, senior manager Running at adidas South Africa.

adidas

Adidas Runners is a global group of runners who meet and run from Runbase, an exciting community hub. This is where runners meet to share experience, get tested and even purchase their favourite adidas running shoes. The first South African Runbase opened in Braamfontein in 2015, with the second planned for Cape Town.

running

‚ÄúRunning provides energy for people to do amazing things with their lives, and through this run that brings international and local running crews and adidas Runners communities together, everyone will tap into this collective potential. There will be a phenomenal prize for the winning crew that runs the 12 km race, so select your members carefully,‚ÄĚ Warnich concluded.

Registration is now open but limited so get your crew together and register ASAP! Visit runyourcrew.com to sign up for this awesome experience.

Entries cost R1200 per crew (R200 per person). All registered crews will receive an entry to the race, an adidas race pack and access to the block party. The race pack contains six adidas RYC race tees, phone pouches, R75 Uber vouchers, timing chips and RYC stickers. After finishing the race together each crew member will also receive their access band to the block party.
