Getting to know Jane Weare
If you follow me on Facebook or snapchat, you’ll know how obsessed I am with We Are Food.
Today I get to introduce you to the lovely lady that basically feeds me every day (Please order their chicken soup, you’re welcome).

Let’s get to know… Jane Weare

What does healthy mean to you?
Everything in moderation!  I have dieted my whole life, and finally found balance in the last 5 years, where I don’t deny myself anything.  But just constantly try to make healthier choices.  I like to challenge myself whereby everytime I make a decision on a meal or treat, I take a second and choose something a little healthier.  So swap that white toast for Rye bread, Medium popcorn at the movies for a small etc.  I think making healthy short term choices, which (hopefully) become long term habits, is the way to a balanced lifestyle.

What is your chosen form of exercise?
Currently I torture myself at the gym 3-4 times a week with cardio/weight varying workouts.  My sister and I tag team between the treadmill and weights on the floor, so we constantly keep our heart rate up while doing moderate weights.  As I am getting older I find monotonous cardio does less for me!  So with the addition of weight training 3-4 times a week I have found my weight has remained constant, but my body shape has improved!  I am loving the results!
Then for fun on the weekend I try to get in the ocean at least once for a surf, but this is more for the soul than the body!

What does your way of health eating look like?
A green smoothie in the morning, it’s such a great way to start the morning, when I don’t have time to whip up complicated meals. For me personally, if I don’t prepare ahead of time, I fall off the wagon (I am a sucker for temptation!).  So boiled eggs, chicken and veg, soups (from We are Food) are a great, quick snack that is satisfying and healthy!

What is your passion project?
My business!  We are Food not only allows me to work within my passion; food!  It also means working daily with my Mum and Sister, Amy, in this family run business.  I never dreamt that one day I could make an income from one of my greatest passions! Everyday I spend time researching new dishes, recipes and ideas, then weekly my Mum and I have fun in our test kitchen trying them out!

What does a typical day look like for you?
4.45am wake up call to be at the gym by 5.15!
6.30am leave gym and head home.
7.15am, quick shower, grab my smoothie and head to our factory in Durban North to get the chefs going by 7.30am!
4.30am finish work, and then relax!
And then (I hate to admit it) I am usually in bed by 8.30pm!

What would you like people to know about you?
I never had a “real” plan for my future, and battled with self-doubt as to my abilities in the corporate world.  But when I took the dive into following my passion; cooking, suddenly not only did the hard work and late nights (or early mornings) become not only bearable, but exciting,  but awesome opportunities revealed themselves to me!  And the saying is totally true;  If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life!

What would you like people to know about your work/business?
We are equally passionate about food, good business practice and our staff!  We want to be a formidable force in our field, whereby things are done properly, we push the boundaries of what is acceptable and run our business on the highest level possible!

Favourite workout song?
Our class instructor likes to throw in the odd sing-a-long like Christina Aguilera, or Moulin Rouge classics!  I love it!

Favourite exercise and why?
Currently I have been enjoying a really good 20minute stretch after my workout – some self adapted yoga poses – does this count??  I can’t say I LOVE any particular exercise, but I love the feeling of achievement after pushing myself!

Favourite quote/advice?
My good friend Erin Phillips who got me into weight training a few years ago once said something so simple, which made so much sense!  “when it starts to burn, and you want to stop, do a few more (reps, steps, another minute), that is the only way you will ever improve”

Getting to know Thando Tsekiso

I met Thando a few months ago, and she is one of those people that you instantly become friends with. She has the brightest smile, the biggest personality and the most beautiful heart. She also lets Fayinthemaze and I ask her the silliest questions and answers without skipping a beat. She’s an entrepreneur, social media influencer, and all around beautiful girl!

Let’s get to know Thando Tsekiso….

What does healthy mean to you?
Healthy means having your body, mind and soul all in good synergy and well balanced.

What is your chosen form of exercise?
My chosen form of exercise is chewing! Kidding ? I hit the gym, but mainly focus on cardio and a bit of weights to tone everything up.

What is your way of healthy eating?
My way of healthy eating involves an assortment of boiled vegetables and a great steak or oven baked chicken!

What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me kick starts with gym, a nap, breakfast while watching a sermon and checking emails & my social media. Then the rest proceeds uniquely as per each day’s requirements. Social media plays a big part throughout the day.

What would you like people to know about you?
I wouldn’t like to dictate to people what they should know about me. Just get to know me and they can figure it out.

What would you like people to know about your work/business?
About my work and business, I’m so passion driven with that project. We take great care for the quality we put out and our customer service. (Visit Wild Rose Boutique and have a look!)

Favourite work out song?
My favourite work out song has to be Future – his entire Purple reign & DS2 album.

Favourite exercise and why?
Favorite exercise had to be like attending a Stepping class… Or is it stepper? Yeah those classes are amazing workouts.

Favourite quote or advice?
Shucks, I have far too many fav quotes. Currently it has to be “Always remember – a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle…” simply because there’s so much power and light which unity and knowledge share holds, but us greedy humans fail to see this.

Being a blessing to another person will see your blessings fall right over you.

We clap for you

So I’ve been struggling with something for a while, and it has come to a peak now and pushed me to start a new movement #WeClapForYou

Motivation

I was chatting to Natalie and Sarah on twitter last night and Natalie had just experienced the same thing. It makes you SO angry that people are so mean and can actually think this way.

When did it become ok to laugh and joke about other people at the gym?
When did it become ok to point and joke about the big girl working out?
When did it become ok to belittle them for being at the gym?
When did it become ok to question why they are there or even trying?
When did it become ok to judge someone when you have no idea about their life?
When did it become ok to laugh about that person and then post about it on social media?
When did it become ok to mock someone’s weight loss struggle and journey?
When did it become ok to be such a bitch?

I actually can’t believe the amount of people that will laugh, belittle, mock, point at and discourage overweight people at the gym, on the promenade and anywhere really. If someone is TRYING to change their life and their health, who are YOU to even question it? Leave the serious questions to us professionals who actually care about these people and their health. We actually ask deep questions that impact their psyche and health and why they are where they are. We don’t ask stupid questions like “Why are you even bothering?” Well they are bothering because they can, and they want to. People don’t ask you questions about why you can’t stop pulling duck face in pictures, so maybe its time for you to stop being a bitch.

The fact that someone has taken the time to drive to the gym, sit with the sales consultant, sign up, and then make the conscious decision to get up and get their ass to the gym, regardless of its size, is a feat in itself and commendable.

Who are you to make a mockery of that? You don’t know if they have cried in their car in the parking lot too afraid to walk in there for fear of people like YOU. You don’t know if they lost a loved one and have no family left so they ate their feelings until they literally didn’t recognise themselves anymore. You don’t know if they have battled and SURVIVED cancer and the cortisone and meds made them balloon to triple their size. You don’t know if she was physically battered by her husband and then ate to make him not want her anymore so he would leave her alone.

YOU. DON’T. KNOW.

Stop being THAT person. Stop hating on people. Stop being a bully!
Show some love. Show some encouragement. Show some support!

When did it become cool to be mean? This is not a movie, this is not Mean Girls. It was funny because it was a movie, not real life. Stop making it real life.

So this is me, as a health and fitness professional, standing up for all of those people who have been laughed at, spoken about, pointed at and belittled for trying! For trying to lose weight, for trying to go to the gym, for trying to be a better version of themselves! If you sign up for a 5k, I will clap for you. If you are running on the promenade, I will clap for you. If you get to the gym, I will clap for you.
I am in AWE of you!

Monday Motivation

This is such a big one for me. I’m quite messy, and when I don’t have everything in its place I start feeling like I’m drowning.

This feeling then spills into everything you do. Your life, your work, your appearance. It makes you feel overwhelmed and I battle to then feel on top of things or perfectly groomed.

The best thing to do is DECLUTTER.

Tackle that wardrobe/chair/room/desk/basket/inbox/desktop. Get it done! You will feel mountains lighter

Declutter and the weight that comes off your shoulders will free you

Declutter so your mind can declutter too!

Today’s Monday Motivation is all about forming new habits.

That’s it. 21 days. You can do that right?

You can literally take it one day at a time. 21 times. That doesn’t sound so bad does it?

  • 21 times of being active
  • 21 times of going without sugar in your coffee
  • 21 times of going for a 20 minute walk
  • 21 times of saying something nice to yourself every morning
  • 21 times of drinking hot lemon water first time in the morning
  • 21 times fitting in 15 minutes of body weight circuits at home
  • 21 times of saying no to fast foods
  • 21 times of being friendly
  • 21 times of not being negative
  • 21 times of saying no to buying new clothes
  • 21 times of drinking more water
  • 21 times of packing lunch for work

Doesn’t seem so bad does it?

21 days for a habit to form
