Since we featured the gorgeous Sisi Mann last, I figured the only thing better than one Mann sister is TWO! So today’s Fitness Friday is the lovely Danielle Mann. You’re welcome…
1. How did you get into dancing?
Well my mother was a dancer so naturally she sent my sisters and I to ballet when we turned 3, and later to modern and tap… and it kinda stuck.
2. When did you know you wanted to be a dancer professionally?
I’m not sure I ever made a conscious decision, it was just always what I wanted to do. I don’t remember anything else ever being an option for me. When I was 7 and my class had to draw what we wanted to be when we were grown up, I drew a Sun City showgirl! So I can safely say I made the decision before then 🙂
3. What is your favourite thing about dancing?
Definitely the relationships I have made! You work physically very intimately with other dancers and also often very long hours, living in each other’s pockets for sometimes months at a time. So friendships are made very quickly. Although we work very hard, there is always lots of laughing and joking at rehearsals. Nothing like a long sweaty day in the studio.
4. What types of dancing are you trained in?
Ballet, Modern, Tap and Hip Hop
5. Where and what did you study?
I studied computer programming and then started a degree in English and Psychology, which I never finished. When I was younger I danced on ships and overseas a lot so I battled to get the work in and eventually gave up – naughty I know. I plan on doing my IDTA dance teachers in a few years.
6. Where are you based now?
I’m now based in Joburg/Pretoria but I can’t stay away from Durban for very long.
7. What is a typical day for you?
It’s very varied but an example of a day for me is waking up early and rehearsing till about 2. I then do the laundry, cooking, cleaning and other wifey duties. Then its yoga at 5pm and I spend my nights watching my favourite series, reading and doing work admin on my laptop. Some weeks my days will be free and I spend time with my friends or workout and often I have a gig at night. When you are taking a show into a theatre you can be there from 8am till midnight.
8. What is your training like?
I go through stages and am always mixing it up so I don’t get bored. I do everything… crossfit, sweat1000, kettlebell training, sometimes my own thing at Virgin Active. This year is the year of yoga for me so I go at least 3 times a week on top of whatever other training I do that day.
9. You were a constant in the Sharkettes, are you still involved even though you aren’t in durban?
I don’t manage to dance at Shark games as much anymore, but definitely if I’m home on a game weekend I’m there. Some of my best friends are Sharkettes so its always fun to dancer together.
10. What are some things we don’t know about you?
I read a lot and my favourite place to hang out is Exclusive Books.
I’ve been OB-sessed with Britney Spears since the first time I saw the Baby One More Time video. Love at first sight. (actually everyone knows that…)
Although both my sisters were/are South African gymnasts, my coolest trick is a cartwheel.
11. Most embarrassing dancing moment?
When I was 18 I was dancing at Sun City. One night I kicked, slipped and fell on my ass… touch wood that has never happened again. Another time my top somehow came undone and FELL OFF while I was dancing, so that was my one and only topless moment haha!
12. Describe yourself in 5 words…
Always laughing at stupid stuff (Can we make that 9 words?)
I mean HOW HOT??? Happy Friday y’all
